The Hague International Open Day
On September 24, international organizations in The Hague will open their doors to the public! If you have ever been curious to visit an organization from the inside, then The Hague International Open Day will be the perfect opportunity for you!
By registering for this special day, guests will be able to partake in a tour of two organizations of their choice. They will also have the chance to visit the International Lounge at the Museon and learn more about The Hague and its role as the second UN City of the world. The Hague International Open Day, is in fact one of the many events that have been organized to celebrate the UN-declared International Day of Peace. To commemorate this important day, the Just Peace Festival will host different events from September 21-24. If you are interested in learning more, I recommend you to check out the Just Peace Festival Facebook page.
Organizations Represented
When I registered for the Open Day, I must admit it took me some time to choose which two organizations I wanted to visit. Because there were so many organizations that had agreed to open their doors, making a choice became complicated. Of the participating organizations, some include: Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), International Criminal Court (ICC), International Court of Justice and Permanent Court of Arbitration (ICJ and PCA), Europe House, UNICEF and OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities (OSCE HCNM). As you can see, the very best of the organizations in The Hague will be participating!
A Glimpse into Future Career Possibilities
This Open Day could be a great opportunity to learn more about future career possibilities if you are studying International Relations (IR). Since I am personally pursuing a degree in IR, I was eager to take advantage of this amazing day. Originally, my first choice was to visit the ICJ. However, as it was probably the organization most demanded, all tours were already booked. Instead, I selected a tour of the ICC and Europe House. Since I am interested in working with an international organization, visiting these two places could give me a better idea of what it is I would like to do in the future. If you already have your eye on a specific organization, make use of this chance to learn more and determine whether it is the right fit for you!
Visit the Peace Palace Library
Along with the opportunity to visit international organizations, you can also tour the Peace Palace Library and learn about historical figures who contributed to the library and international law. As the library with one of the largest collections in public and private international law, it is definetly worth visiting. During the Open Day, tours will focus on the special collections of the international peace movement and Hugo Grotius. I cannot wait to visit the library and learn more about the historical figures that created the international law we have today.
