Interview: Student Association Xenia

Are you planning to join a student association in the coming academic year? What a great idea! We have asked Jette Scholtes, Secretary of S.A. Xenia, everything you need to know about their association.

First of all, tell us about your association!

S.A. Xenia is the international student association for students studying Hotel- or Facility Management at Breda University of Applied Sciences. It was founded on the 30th of May 2002. We have a mixed fraternity, two sororities and a fraternity: Gemengd Dispuut Egidius, Damesdispuut Vigeo, Sorority NYX and Fraternity Palto. Besides this there are several active yearclubs. We are an association that loves drinks and partying, but we also dedicate time to the academic programme of Hotel- and Facility Management. You can find us at the BUAS Campus and we have drinks every Wednesday night at de Borrelbar Breda. After registering with S.A. Xenia, what can prospective students expect?

During the introduction weekend, upcoming members can expect a weekend in which the goal is to get to know more about the association and your instalment. Together with your instalment you are awaiting a great time as a member of S.A. Xenia!

Are there any obligations when you join S.A. Xenia?

In general, there are no obligations when you are a member of S.A. Xenia. However, it is nice to see your friends or get to know more people every Wednesday night in our beloved Borrel Bar Breda. As with everything in life: the less you miss out on the more you’re going to enjoy yourself!

What are the duties of the board?

The Board of this year is Board Westerhoff and consists of the following Board members:

Chairman

The Chairman is the head of the association. The Chairman carries the final responsibility for everything that happens within the association.

Vice-chairman

The Vice-chairman is responsible for the Sororities, Fraternities and Year Clubs. Moreover, she assists the Chairman with her tasks and helps other board members when needed.

Secretary

The Secretary is responsible for all the administrative aspects of the association for example the mail boxes and making the agenda and minutes for both Board meetings and General Members Meetings.

Treasurer

The Treasurer is responsible for the finances of the association. He is the spokesperson between the association, members and partners when it comes to finance.

Coordinator Communication

As Coordinator Communication, promotion is the most important! He makes sure that the members receive updates on social media about what is happening within the association and he creates enthusiasm amongst the members.

Coordinator Public Relations

The Coordinator Public Relations is responsible for the sponsorships Xenia has. She will have meetings with sponsors regularly and has the responsibility to gain new interesting collaborations in the near future. This year the Coordinator Public Relations fulfills the position of Coordinator Operational as well. The Coordinator Operational is responsible for the parties and related events, as well as educational events where you can learn something!

Why should students become a member of S.A. Xenia?

New Hotel- and Facility students of Breda University of Applied Sciences should become a member because you get to know a lot of people that are enthusiastic for the hospitality industry and are really nice to party with! You build life-long friendships, a great network and there are possibilities to join committees and expand your skills.

Is there something you really want to share with potential members?

Starting a new study and maybe even moving to a new city can be a bit scary, but also very exciting! Joining S.A. Xenia is something that you won't regret! We will make sure you feel at home, meet new friends, and have a great student life!
